How does a website get to the top of the search results? What can I do to improve my business likelihood of getting to the top? Why not hear it from search giant Google:
“Google PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves important weigh more heavily and help to make other pages important.” – From Google
The web is always changing and adapting, even a year ago you would hear it that it is all about the keywords, not anymore. Relevant content and as many inbound links (or just call them votes) as you can get are what are going to propel you to that desired top spot.
Not all inbound links are created equal though. A website that gets no traffic and links to you is not worth as much as a link from say… CNN, you get the picture. This stops people from going out and creating a thousand blank webpage with a bunch of links.
So let’s take this knowledge and help grow our online businesses. Go out to your top 10 vendors or other business you work closely with and talk about getting your link on their page. Offer to put you’re their link on your page; chances are they will follow suit. It’s nothing huge that suddenly makes a gigantic difference when trying to get to the top, its small incremental changes like these that get you there little by little.
Best Regards
