Blogging is an investment

investmentMost small business owners are not great at marketing themselves or their businesses.  They’re fantastic CEO’s, CFOs, sales people, customer service reps, account managers, and so on but not always all-star marketers.  Marketing is the life’s blood of any business and just like how you need to keep your body in great health you need to continue to keep the pipeline full through your marketing campaign and keep your business healthy.

One of the best ways to do this is through blogging.  When you decide to create a blog on your business realize that you’re committing to post a few articles a week on an ongoing basis.  If you don’t intend to stick with it then your best bet is to not even start.  But the benefits are clear.   Every time you write a blog article your create a ongoing cash flow forever, you’re creating an investment.

For example, I wrote a recent article on Google Voice and how you can use that on your website.  In two weeks a have gotten over 50 visitors that used that key term to find my website.  Now assume that article receives that kind of traffic going forward, month after month.  To get that customer traffic through other forms such as through a paid search service such as Google Adwords I would have to pay nearly $.50-$1 per click.  So this one blog post could be worth as much as $500-1000 in saved marketing dollars.

Now not every article is going to get great traffic.  You can also not expect results over night but were else can you spend a hour or two a week and truly create an ongoing investment for your company that like a primed water pump, continues to pump new customers to your website.

It’s easy to get started, you can start for free through WordPress.com or Blogger.com, or take it to the next step and integrate your blog with your website.
